this is a mod of the 40h_serial max/msp patch, for use on Windows XP systems that cannot use serialio or mapd. it is made for max/MSP 4.6.1 or greater only. there are many improvements over the original (as well as my original mod), including:
-the default COMport will automatically be set at startup, without having to manually select it.
-at startup, a clear all LED’s message is sent, clearing the power-on light pattern
-OSC is integrated: you can set the in and out ports on the GUI itself, using the text enter (make sure you enter only a valid port number, or else problems may occur
-uses the smaller, better GUI of 40h_serial, yet you can access many of the test functions of the serial_40h test patch by hitting the “open TEST” button.
UPDATE (10/3/06) – opening the patcher now automatically intializes to the first comport detected by max, plus some other structure changes, so that the lights turn off at startup correctly (was flaky before, messages were not defered in the correct order and therefore the patch didnt always initialize correctly).
press the “open OSC” button for a list of all supported OSC commands.
note, that for the initial release of max/msp 4.6.1 on Windows XP, the serial object is not working correctly, check the cycling website for any updates, or download the updated serial external from here (the wiki): Attached Serial_fix_4.6.Zip
