note: this may seem loooooong, but that is just because it is very detailed, setup should take less than 10 minutes.

first you need chuck if you don't have it.

for os x users who are scared of the terminal download and miniAudicle from:
http://audicle.cs.princeton.edu/mini/mac

download MonoAbleMe from:
http://wiki.monome.org/view/AppChuckMonoableme
be sure to save it somewhere you will be able to easily locate in a few minutes.

To install, simply mount the miniAudicle.dmg disk image,
and drag the miniAudicle application from the disk image to
your /Applications folder or any other desired location.

Before we run chuck (miniAudicle) or live, we need to set a few IAC ports up in Audio Midi Setup.

Launch Audio Midi Setup (located under /Applications/Utilities/)

Under the "MIDI Devices" tab click on "IAC Driver" then hit the "Show Info" button at the top.

Make sure "Device is online" is checked.

Under "Ports" on the "Ports" tab make sure you have one named in and one named out setup like the screenshot below. You can add ports using the "Add Port" button, and re-name them by double-clicking on the existing name. Once everything looks like the screenshot, click on "Apply", then quit Audio Midi Setup.

The setup should be complete, here are the real day-to-day usage steps:

*IMPORTANT!!! Run serialio* - without serialio running, your 40h presses won't be converted to OSC for MonoAbleMe to then convert to midi.

Now we can run chuck (miniAudicle). Double click on the miniAudicle icon wherever you installed it to.

In miniAudicle hit "File -> Open" and open MonoAbleMe.ck
You need to start the chuck virtual machine so hit "ChucK -> Start Virtual Machine". (With the virtual machine running you will now be able to use the buttons on the MonoAbleMe.ck window in miniAudicle)

Click on "Add Shred" at the top left of the MonoAbleMe.ck window

Now open live 6 and go to the midi prefs. It should look like the screenshot.

At this point you should be able to go to midi assign in live and assign clips to the 40h buttons. enjoy.

ps. for even more fun, take a beat or loop and slice it up into 8 (or more, or less) duplicate clips on the same track in live and setup the follow actions to have it play through like normal. then you can do mlr style cutting in realtime. good stuff. thanks again to ahlstrominfo for this wonderful ChucK patch.

[[ insert picture of screenshot ]]

…
